As the summer holidays approach, it can be tempted to enjoy a dip in a river or loch. While many are eagerly awaiting the summer holidays, ahead of Drowing Preventation Week (15-22 June 2024), agencies and organisations such as the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) and The Royal Lifesaving Society UK (RLSS UK) are encouraging everyone to remind themselves and others of important water safety tips to ensure everyone enjoys a safe and happy summer.
Remember:
- Be cautious around rivers, lochs, lakes & the sea. Never underestimate the current, temp or depth - and keep in mind that hidden objects or currents could be hidden out of sight.
- Never get into the water alone or in areas such as lochs, ponds, rivers or the sea where there isn't someone around to help.
- Follow the Water Safety Code before being in or around water.
