Making sense of money - free workshops from Pollok Credit Union

Did you make a New Years resolution to learn a new skill? Do numbers and budgets make your head spin? 

A new series of money management workshops will be taking place in North Glasgow during February and March. Pollok Credit Union will be hosting the workshops which are designed to help those taking part gain a better understanding of money management and gain budgeting skills.

Participants will learn more about setting and following a budget, cooking on a budget, saving, understanding debt, what a credit union is and how to manage a credit union account.

Sessions start Wednesday 12 February 2025 and run through to the end of March:

What will be the workshops be covering?

1.   Money management and budgeting – This workshop would be around budgeting skills, setting and sticking to a budget, affording your guilty pleasures and being aware of your income and expenditure.

2.   Saving on a budget – This would look at the importance of saving in becoming financially resilient and how saving a little soon grows.  It will take about where you can save and how protected your savings are.

3.   Affordable credit – Understanding interest rates and options available, how your credit score affects what rates you get offered and how to check and build your credit score.

4.   Cooking on a budget – This would look at how to cook on a budget giving practical ideas and simple recipes that participants can follow for nutritious, healthy and filling meals. (Please note that location for this session may change. Currently the morning session will be held at MsMissMrs (1 Benview St, Glasgow G20 7SA) from 9:30am - 11:30am. Possobilities will host the afternoon session from 2pm - 4pm at 74 Closeburn St, Glasgow (G22 5ST). We will update this information in due course.) 

5.   Dealing with Debt – options available for dealing with your debt, where to go if you have debt problems, hints and tips for dealing with creditors and what happens if you can’t pay your debts and what options are available.  

6.   What are Credit Unions? Sign up and manage credit union accounts. This session will help you understand how to sign up to credit union accounts, talk about the benefits of having a credit union accounts, and give a background to credit unions in general and Pollok Credit Union in particular.

Each workshop is scheduled to last around 90 minutes.
